20th Anniversary Edition Of Debut Album “Glory To The Brave” Announced By HammerFall

Sweden’s HammerFall will release the 20th Anniversary Edition of the celebrated debut record “Glory To The Brave” on December 1st. The release is chock full of bonus material.

When HammerFall released the debut album “Glory To The Brave” 20 years ago, the five Swedes launched a true heavy metal revival overnight. While the mainstream still concentrated on grunge and the metal scene was dominated by black metal and gothic acts, this traditional metal record was like a godsend and heralded a new era. “For us, the immense success was a real shock in the beginning,” singer Joacim Cans remembers, because suddenly, HammerFall was considered to be the saviours of true metal. They received countless rave reviews from magazines, Wacken Open Air booked the band for a prime time slot on the main stage, Kai Hansen invited the band personally to join as support on the Gamma Ray tour and the CD entered the German album charts at the amazing position of #38 – an unbelievable achievement during this time. “Our advantage was that no one has expected us and our album. We only did what we wanted and felt compelled to do.”

This passion was not least influenced by German metal acts like Accept, Helloween and Stormwitch, but also by other underdogs like Warlord or Picture. “I’m still very proud of this album, it has turned our lives upside down” the vocalist sums up, and is equally proud of the extensive re-release of the cult album, which will be released on December 1st via Nuclear Blast. The re-release includes the completely re-mastered version of “Glory To The Brave,” a radio edit of the legendary title track as well as the great cover version of the Stormwich classic “Ravenlord.” The bonus CD will include six live versions of “The Metal Age,” “Steel Meets Steel,” “Stone Cold,” “Glory To The Brave,” “Hammerfall” and “The Dragon Lies Bleeding,” as well as a medley from numerous tracks off of their first-class debut album, which was recorded live this year at a show in Berlin.

In addition to this, the double CD will also be enhanced by a bonus DVD containing the first chapters of “The First Crusade” documentary, which was originally published on VHS, as well as four new, historically edited interview chapters plus a live recording of their Dynamo Open Air show at Eindhoven in 1998. It will be available as a Digipak in an attractive box set, including a booklet containing detailed liner notes, many photos from the private archives of the musicians as well as magazine reports, flyers, posters and much more. Besides the 2-CD/DVD, you can also purchase the audio part separately, which includes bonus tracks as a double-vinyl.

There has been no other album that was quite as important for the development of heavy metal in the nineties and now, the milestone will be published in a comprehensive deluxe edition that leaves no wish unfulfilled!

Bruce Corbitt Admitted To Hospital For Esophageal Tumor

After undergoing heart surgery back in 2015, there have been more health issues lately for Bruce Corbitt (Warbeast / Rigor Mortis).

Bruce has been posting a series of updates from the emergency room via Facebook since late last night, and has now issued the following update about the apparent cause of his bleeding issue:

“Worst news possible. I have an esophageal tumor. In most cases, esophageal cancer is a treatable disease, but it is rarely curable.

“The overall 5-year survival rate in patients amenable to definitive treatment ranges from 5% to 30%. The occasional patient with very early disease has a better chance of survival.

“They’re about to test if already cancerous. I’m going to be here for a long time. Devastated! I’m doomed and my time is short. Love y’all!”

Hexa Mera Unveils New Album “Enlightenment”

Belgian modern melodic death metal group Hexa Mera will release second full-length album, “Enlightenment,” on March 31st. The album was recorded at Empyrean Studio, mixed at OceanSide Studio by Ace Zec, and mastered at Fascination Street Studios By Jens Bogren.

The artwork the follow-up to 2014’s “Human Entropy” album was created by Colin Marks from Rain Song Design and can be seen below. Hexa Mera also comments on the coming “Enlightenment” album:

“The idea to use the age of enlightenment as theme for this album was forged right after we released our debut album ‘Human Entropy.’ The world was and still is spinning out of control: Extremists became a larger threat to our civilization, human and animal rights are being violated, political correctness is censoring the truth, media focusing on sales instead of news value, and so much more…

“The world never was a utopic place, but with the information we got, it seemed to become worse. We felt fear, disappointment, but most of all, we felt anger. Because we felt powerless, the only thing we could do was to speak out, and this is exactly what this album is about.”

The official “Enlightenment” release show will take place on April 1st at the renowned Nijdrop venue in Opwijk, Belgium and the new album’s track listing is as follows:

1. Empyrean
2. Anthropic Principle
3. Inhuman
4. Divide et Impera
5. Brotherhood
6. Dare to Know
7. Union
8. Archetype of Hate
9. Godless
10. This Bleeding
11. Enlightenment
