Dystopia Streams “Black Death” Single

Dutch black metal crew Dystopia will unleash second full-length album, “Chaos Philosophorum,” on April 21st. The band has now unveiled the second track entitled “Black Death” – listen in below.

Dystopia comments: “‘Black Death’ explores the idea of what it means to live in a dystopia. It’s about the thought that a dystopic society can’t only exist because of a corrupt government, but it can also materialize by the absence of one. What happens when your leaders die because of the black plague? What happens when nobody knows what to do and the structure of civilization falls apart? It is a mixture of doom and fleeting hope and the music reflects that.”

The album was recorded at Studio Helvete in Den Helder, mixed by Thomas Cochrane of TC Music Productions and finally mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. Artwork for the follow-up to 2013’s “Haat” was designed by Adam Burke from Nightjar Illustration.

3. Black Death

Black Death’s Debut Album To See Re-Issue

Hells Headbangers is proud to present a special, LONG-overdue reissue of Black Death’s self-titled, debut album.

Highly sought after by collectors, not only is Black Death a crucial piece in the rich history of Cleveland heavy metal, its original 1984 release marks the first full-length release by an all African American heavy metal band. More than that, with the band’s origins dating back to 1977, Black Death is largely known to be the first African American metal band.

But most of all, Black Death’s lone album is a classic of raw ‘n’ wild heavy fucking metal with a thirst for the epic and dramatic. Black Death’s original lineup consisted of Siki Spacek on lead vocals and lead guitar, Phillip Bullard on drums and percussion, bassist Daryl Harris, and guitarist Gregg Hicks.

“This was the original, classic lineup of the band,” says Spacek. “I met these guys waaaaaay back in 1977 while I was in the 11th grade, on the exact same day that I was expelled from school. At this point in time, I had already decided that music was the direction that I wanted to take my life in, and heavy metal was the perfect way to accomplish this goal.”

A finalized release date and preorder info are due to be revealed shortly, and the track listing will be as follows:

-main LP-
Side A
1. Night of the Living Dead
2. The Hunger
3. When Tears Run Red (From Love Lost Yesterday)
4. Fear No Evil
Side B
5. The Scream of the Iron Messiah
6. Streetwalker
7. Black Death

Dystopia Announces “Chaos Philosophorum” Album Release

Dutch black metal outfit Dystopia will unleash second full-length album, “Chaos Philosophorum,” on April 21st. The album was recorded at Studio Helvete in Den Helder, mixed by Thomas Cochrane of TC Music, and finally mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege.

The artwork for the follow-up to 2013’s “Haat” was designed by Adam Burke from Nightjar Illustration and can be seen below. Dystopia frontman Dennis Onsia commented:

“After years of growing and maturing towards our own sound, ‘Chaos Philosophorum’ feels like the first serious step in our own direction. This album represents us one hundred percent, both musically and emotionally. It includes influences from a lot of diverse musical genres, but I feel that we succeeded in making this album both original and organic.”

Themes on ‘Chaos Philosophorum’ deal with space, existence and death. Onsia goes on to say, “We wanted to combine these concepts in our artwork, so we took the medieval plague doctor as a strong and recognizable symbol of death, and combined it with the almost magical shapes and colors of a galaxy. As if he is casting a spell. The artist Adam Burke did a tremendous job converting our ideas into this artwork.”
