Bell Witch Announces Single-Song Album “Mirror Reaper”

Seattle doom metal duo Bell Witch will release third full-length album “Mirror Reaper” worldwide on October 20th via Profound Lore Records. With “Mirror Reaper,” Bell Witch has created an enormous work – one continuous, eighty-three-minute piece unfolding as a single track.

Engineered and mixed by veteran producer Billy Anderson (Swans, Sleep, Neurosis), the duo of Dylan Desmond (bass, vocals) and Jesse Shreibman (drums, vocals, organ) have pushed the band’s sound further beyond 2015 LP, “Four Phantoms.” The artwork for Mirror Reaper was painted by Mariusz Lewandowski.

Bell Witch comments: “The title ‘Mirror Reaper’ is indicative of the Hermetic axiom ‘As Above, So Below,’ written with two sides to form one whole. The song is both its own and its reflection, as an opposite is whole only with its contrary. Our focus as a band has always been the perception of ghosts and the implied archetype of the dichotomy of life/death therein. ‘Mirror Reaper’ is a continuation of that concept.

“During the writing process we were devastated by the loss of our dear friend and former drummer, Adrian Guerra. In love and respect to his memory, we reserved an important yet brief section in the song for him that features unused vocal tracks from our last album. This specific movement serves as a conceptual turn in the piece, or point of reflection. We believe he would be proud of it as well. ‘Mirror Reaper’ was the first collaborative writing project with the new lineup, and Adrian’s death during it brought extra emotional weight. We sought to match the complexity and weight of these events within the composition of the piece.”

Black Table Posts New Song “Helm”

New song “Helm” has just come online, which is a track off Black Table’s upcoming sun-dimming atrocity of an album, “Obelisk.”

Led by the gut-wrenching screams of frontwoman-powerhouse Mers Sumida, Black Table presents a version of extreme music that twists, turns, weaves, and unravels. Sludgy post-rock teeters on the edge of a blackened hellscape – the band traverses truly dismal realms and also catches glimpses of brightness and triumph.

The album was produced by Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Sleep, Leviathan) and mastered by Colin Marston (Gorguts, Krallice), and will be released October 14th via Silent Pendulum Records in the US, and Moment of Collapse Records in Europe.

Artwork For New Album “Epoch” Released By Varego, New Single Streaming

Italian progressive/post-metal act Varego revealed the cover artwork (shown below) of the new release “Epoch” and is streaming the new single “Alpha Tauri” in the player below.

After joining forces with producer Billy Anderson for mixing and mastering, the band teamed up with long time collaborator Marco Castagnetto for the new cover artwork.

The band says: “It is great to have again Marco on board, listening to our songs and working on an original artwork for our album. He is able not only to create stunning illustrations, but also to capture the essence of the band while realizing a perfect blend of details where fiction, philosophy and arcane secrets collides.”

On the single “Alpha Tauri,” the band commented: “Alpha Tauri marks a new beginning for us. Being on hold since a bunch of years, we focused our efforts to create a new journey based on our main influences, which is something coming from the ‘voivodian’ world. We hope you enjoy the energy of our songs as we do.”

“Epoch” will be released by Argonauta Records as a CD and digital download on October 10th. Preorders are available at this location and over here.

Varego Releasing New Album “Epoch”

Italian post metal / sludge group Varego today announces a new album following the debut “Tumultum” (2012), follow-up EP “Blindness of the Sun” (2013), and the digital single “Phantasma” (2015).

The new album is entitled “Epoch” and captures the band with renewed vibes made of unceasing guitar riffing, yet built on progressive structures with a cinematic touch. “Epoch” will be made up of six long tracks and will see the band renewing its long time collaboration with legendary producer Billy Anderson. Varego comments:

“The new album is our most relevant effort to date, born after several months of hiatus that gave us a new belief and attitude towards our means and targets. We are plenty satisfied of the band work, being able to capture and build up something different than before, keeping our roots alive and transforming them into an original sound full of energies and atmosphere. Having big influences from bands as Melvins, Neurosis, Voivod, and Motorpsycho, our aim was to create a sort of celebration of a certain music attitude and method. And the new partnership with Billy Anderson did the rest.”

Saviours Announces New Album “Palace Of Vision”

On October 30, California metal outfit Saviours will drop the molten fruits of a new full-length via a recently inked partnership with France’s Listenable Records.

Titled “Palace Of Vision,” the group’s first full-length in four years was captured at Type Foundry in Portland, Oregon with Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth, Eyehategod, Taurus, Ommadon etc.) and boasts nine tracks of Saviours’ signature brand of towering riffs, colossal rhythms, infectious guitar harmonies and an obsession with the end of times, the occult, psychedelics and the arcane.

“It’s a natural and logical continuation of where we left off with ‘Death’s Procession,'” said drummer Scott Batiste of the offering. “There are some doomy crushers and faster ragers.”

As an added bonus, the record comes sheathed in the fittingly dark, intricately transfixing cover renderings of Derrick Snodgrass (Obliterations, Lecherous Gaze). Check out the advance song “Burning Shrine” below, while the full track listing is:

1. The Mountain
2. Flesh Of Fire
3. Devil’s Crown
4. Palace Of Vision
5. Burning Shrine
6. Hell’s Floor
7. The Beast Remains
8. Cursed Night
8. The Seeker

Crown To Miss First Week Of European Tour Dates With Agalloch

Crown (not to be confused with The Crown) was set to embark on a European tour alongside Agalloch on July 28th, but the band will now be missing several dates. Agalloch comments:

“Due to a last-minute medical situation, Crown has been forced to cancel the first week of the tour. They will be joining us in Colmar, France on the 3rd of August and will continue the tour from there until the end.

“Their replacement will be John Haughm performing a solo piece based on his latest release; ‘The Last Place I Remember.’ Thus far it has been performed only twice so those in Berlin, Warsaw, Nova Gorica, Brescia, and Zürich will be treated to this rare event, complete with full stage aesthetics and the sonic extremity of Billy Anderson at the soundboard.

“We in Agalloch wish Stephane a quick and full recovery and we look forward to having Crown join us in Colmar.”
