Anthrax Guitarist Scott Ian To Lady Gaga: “Let Us Be Your Backing Band”

Scott Ian says that Anthrax “would love” to collaborate on music with pop superstar Lady Gaga…

In an interview with Duke TV’s Antoine De Montremy, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian states about Lady Gaga (see video below): “Yes, we would love to work with Lady Gaga. I think we put that out there a while ago. And then when we found out she was doing the Grammys with Metallica, I was, like, ‘Wow! It makes sense. They’re gonna be on a big TV show and do it together.’ And I actually thought she was great on it.

“I’ve said since the beginning, since the first time I ever heard her voice, I always thought, ‘Wow, I would really love to hear her sing on a rock record, metal record, whatever,'” he continues. “And then our drummer, Charlie Benante, ended up meeting her at a show and they became friends. And she knows all about Anthrax and Metallica and all these bands… whoever – name the band. She’s a metalhead. So that made it even cooler. The fact that, all right, she knows that world, she understands that world, and she can sing the shit out of this kind of music.”

“I don’t know what their plans are – if Metallica has more plans with Lady Gaga or if she has plans with Metallica – but we would certainly love to write a song together, or a whole album. Let us be your backing band. Let us be your backing band, Lady Gaga. We could make beautiful music together.”

Friedman will also use Shining as his backing band during the tour and perform a few surprise collaborations. Shining states that the idea of collaboration came along when Jørgen Munkeby played sax on Marty’s latest album. Dates are as follows:

2014-12-16 – Institute – Birmingham, UK
2014-12-17 – O2 Academy – Bristol, UK
2014-12-18 – The Forum – London, UK
2014-12-19 – Academy – Manchester, UK
2014-12-20 – Academy – Dublin, Ireland
2014-12-21 – QMU – Glasgow, UK
2014-12-22 – O2 Academy – Newcastle, UK

Friedman comments: “Arch Enemy and Kreator are two of my all-time favorite bands in metal, and after collaborating with Shining on my latest album, I cannot wait to break all sorts of musical rules and boundaries with them live on the same stage. This will be a once in a lifetime collection of unique metal presences.”

Munkeby adds: “We’re super happy to play these shows with old and new metal gods alike! To add to that, we’re even doing a very special and unique set together with Marty Friedman on stage, which will include both Shining and Marty material. Can’t wait to be part of such a cool setup! 2014 has been one of Shining’s best and most active years so far, and what a grand way to top it off!”

DragonForce launch “The Game” video; announce August 19 release date for “Maximum Overload”

– June 18th, 2014 –

DragonForce have announced that they will be releasing “Maximum Overload” in the US on August 19! The band has just launched a brand new video for “The Game,” which was directed by XX. The video can be seen now at metalblade.com/dragonforce, where fans can also pre-order “Maximum Overload” on CD, digitally, and limited edition vinyl!

Produced by Jens Bogren at Fascination Studios in Örebro and Varberg, Sweden, the new opus will be the band’s first ever album involving an outside producer, having historically opted to record themselves in association with Karl Groom. “Maximum Overload” will be the band’s debut album for new label Ear Music, part of the German Edel music group, who will release the album in the UK on August 18th, and in North America on Metal Blade Records on August 19th.

Working with Jens gave us a different perspective on the songs and a different sound dynamic. We always previously recorded in our own studios but recording in Sweden made us focus and maybe drove us harder, Jens certainly did, he doesn’t believe in days off!” said guitar maestro Herman Li.

The album title and album cover artwork is inspired by the constant bombardment of information we are subjected to during our daily lives” Li added. “We were in an airport departure lounge surrounded by TV screens, flight information screens and advertising screens. We then looked around and no one was saying a word, they were all looking at more screens on tablets, laptops and mobile phones, there’s no escaping it, it’s complete information overload“!

Maximum Overload” features a couple of surprises, notably a guest appearance on some of the songs from Trivium’s Matt Heafy. “We’ve always gotten on really well with the Trivium guys and it was great when Matt had a couple of days to spare and agreed to weigh in on some of the songs!” added bassist Frederic Leclercq.

The album also features an all time first for DragonForce…a cover song! Guitarist Sam Totman explained: “Just before the last Australian tour, our manager suggested it might be interesting to do a cover for the next album, something we’ve always refused even to consider. Because we had all had a couple beers every band member wrote down 3 songs each and we compared them all, just for a laugh. I wrote down ‘Ring Of Fire’ by Johnny Cash, an idea which the rest of the band loved, so we’ve DragonForce-ized it“!

DragonForce is:
Marc Hudson – Lead Vocals
Herman Li – Guitar, Backing Vocals
Sam Totman – Guitar, Backing Vocals
Frédéric Leclercq – Bass, Backing Vocals
Vadim Pruzhanov – Keyboards, Backing Vocals
Gee Anzalone – Drums, Backing Vocals
