Thunderstick Announces First Show In Thirty Years In Gravesend, Followed By Festival Appearances

On the back of the phenomenally positive reaction to last year’s album the eponymously named Thunderstick hit the stage in July for the first Thunderstick gig in over 30 years. Taking the stage at Gravesend’s infamous rock venue, itself celebrating 40 years of live music, Leo’s Red Lion will host a unique Thunderstick “showcase” gig a week before their performance at A New Day festival, after which the band will do select gigs through until the Autumn culminating at the Hard Rock Hell festival in November. The Gravesend gig will see Thunderstick performing their full festival set coupled with a post-gig Q&A session with Thunderstick creator Barry Graham Purkis and his band-mates.

Thunderstick aka Barry Graham Purkis comments:

“Energy, power, theatrics and outrage have always been present in the Thunderstick shows of old. We will ramp up those components considerably for the forthcoming New-NWOBHM 2018 stage shows. For those who were there first time round in the ‘80s welcome back we have missed you so much. For those about to experience us for the first time prepare yourselves for a journey. Viixen, Lee, Rex, Baz, and Thunderstick will steal your ‘rock ‘n’ roll heart’…”

On returning to this prized venue he reflects:

“The Red Lion in Northfleet has always been a ‘musical basecamp’ for me, both with Samson and with Thunderstick. Iron Maiden have their ‘Cart and Horses’…I have the ‘Red Lion’ Northfleet. Can’t wait to play there this summer.”

Lead vocalist Viixen adds:

“The sky drew dark and low with ominous clouds, the winds shriek, howl, cry, baying wolf like into the black, the first crack of lightening announces the reverberated boom of the overhead Thunder, in the eye of the savage storm thirty years plus in the coming, I will stand centre stage resolute in my ability to control, do not fear I am here for you…”

The Leo’s Red Lion gig will be followed up by a number of festival appearances including A New Day Festival (August 3rd-5th), Hard Rock Hell (November 8th-11th) and Mearfest (November).

Rivers of Nihil premieres new track, “A Home”, via InvisibleOranges.com – alongside an exclusive interview with the band!

– February 21st, 2018 –

On March 16th, Rivers of Nihil will release their third full-length, Where Owls Know My Name, via Metal Blade Records. Whereas The Conscious Seed of Light (2013) and Monarchy (2015) were thematically centered around spring and summer, respectively, Where Owls Know My Name represents the fall. And although that season is usually associated with death, for Rivers of Nihil, the autumn serves as a rebirth.

For a preview of Where Owls Know My Name, the album track “A Home” can be streamed via InvisibleOranges.com now, alongside an exclusive interview with the band: invisibleoranges.com

The previous single, “The Silent Life”, can be heard at: metalblade.com/riversofnihil – where the record can also be pre-ordered in the following formats:

–CD
–Swamp green vinyl + download card (limited to 400 copies – USA exclusive)
–Olive green w/ black splatter vinyl + download card (limited to 300 copies – USA exclusive)
–Doublemint inside swamp green vinyl + download card (limited to 300 copies – USA exclusive)
* exclusive bundles with a shirt, plus digital options are also available!

Where Owls Know My Name reunites Rivers of Nihil with Monarchy producer Carson Slovak (August Burns Red, The Last Ten Seconds of Life) and Dan Seagrave, the storied artist behind such celebrated album covers as Entombed‘s Left Hand Path and Suffocation‘s Effigy of the Forgotten. The result is the Reading, PA quintet’s most visceral, accomplished, and satisfying offering to-date.

Guitarist Brody Uttley comments:
“This record is Rivers of Nihil being exactly who we want to be. Many bands get stuck in a comfortable routine of releasing the same album over and over again. Constantly relying on the same familiar formula may work for some bands, but it does not work for us. Music is art, and art is ever-changing. Without change, there is no progress. Without progress, the very fire that powers art and expression will die. This record is the sound of where we come from, where we are, and where we are going.”

Adds bassist/vocalist Adam Biggs:
“This time around, the lyrics feel a little more personal than on previous albums. The story picks up several millennia after the events of ‘Monarchy‘, where one person still remains alive, chosen by the planet to be the sole intelligent witness of its ultimate fate. But ‘Where Owls Know My Name‘ is less about overarching narrative than our previous albums. The scenario is just a backdrop for the more emotional material we tried to put forth this time around. Ultimately, this is an album about loss, getting older, and reaching a point where death becomes a much more present part of your life.”

New Music Video “To Your Brethren In The Dark” Released By Satyricon

Norway’s Satyricon released the new video clip for “To Your Brethren In The Dark” courtesy of Metal Injection at this location, or even easier – just down in the player below. The song is taken from the band’s latest album “Deep calleth upon Deep,” which was released on September 22nd via Napalm Records.

Speaking about the new video, frontman and band visionary, Satyr tells us, “I wanted ‘To your brethren in the dark’ to be a director’s interpretation of the song, rather than a band performance type of thing. Seeing what we do through the eyes of another artist is always interesting to me and just like the song, the video has become a little bit of a journey on it’s own. ‘To your brethren in the dark’ is definitely one of the flagship songs on the record. It is about emotion, our nature, the spirits, the autumn, the sombre and rainy days, those who we lost and the ones who we have not met yet. You could say it is a tribute to the sorrow in man and to the drama of the nature we surround ourselves with. A song for the dark towers of the past and those who will rise in the future. Pass the torch to your brethren in the dark.”

Eponymous Single Avialable From Dom Zly

Polish act Dom Zly released the new single “Dom Zly” off the self-titled debut EP. The title track is streaming now exclusively via Echoes & Dust at this location, or just by clicking play in the player at the bottom. “Dom Zly” is out on October 13th via Unquiet Records.

Dom Zly was established in late Autumn of 2016 in Pulawy, Poland. The inner need to express oneself about everyday realities surrounding us was the main reason for starting this project. The climate of the music is the result of the band members’ common fascination with alternative music and its broad horizons, inclined more towards the heavier or extreme side.

Dom Zly is the crust vision of a degenerated world, condemning the existing order.

The project consists of members of bands such as Kaldera, Hidden World, The Feral Trees, Weedcraft, Panacea and Words Mean Nothing.

Details Of Debut Album Posted By The Wake

Romanian/German duo The Wake announce the debut album will be entitled “Earth’s Necropolis” and is scheduled to be released in collaboration with Loud Rage Music this Autumn. Check out the artwork and first single “The Painter of Voices” below. More details on the album will follow.

The cover artwork is the work of well-known graphic artist Travis Smith who has done work for many established rock and metal bands, including Death, Devin Townsend, Katatonia, Nevermore, Opeth, Anathema, and King Diamond among others.

The Wake’s goal is to show the world that black metal returns with simplicity, but great passionate songwriting, proving a high intensity capable to reach big audiences again.

The Wake plays black metal having Dissection, Venom and Bathory as main inspiration, but the style reminds of some of the biggest Scandinavian names (Immortal, Darkthrone, Dark Funeral) and shows also a powerful melancholic side, which resembles the British premiere league of dark and depressive music (old Anathema, My Dying Bride, Cradle Of Filth).

Byzantine launches video for new single, “Vile Maxim”

– July 26th, 2017 –

Announces record release party on July 29th

The Friday (July 28th), Byzantine will release their new album, The Cicada Tree, via Metal Blade Records. Heralded as the most underrated band from the New Wave of American Heavy Metal Movement, Byzantine has slowly gained a cult-like following after releasing 5 genre-bending albums. 16 years underground, it’s finally time for the world to hear Byzantine! For a preview of The Cicada Tree, a video for the new single, “Vile Maxim” (directed/edited by Holly Mollohan, and produced by Screaming Butterfly Entertainment), has been launched online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qjizRfVg7k

The previous singles – “New Ways to Bear Witness” and “Trapjaw” – can be viewed at: metalblade.com/byzantine – where the record can also be pre-ordered in the following formats:
–CD
–180g black 2LP + etching (limited to 150 copies – USA exclusive)
–peach orange marbled 2LP + etching (limited to 350 copies – USA exclusive)
–clear pastel rose 2LP + etching (limited to 100 copies – EU exclusive)
* exclusive bundles with a shirt, plus digital options are also available!

To state that The Cicada Tree is “classic Byzantine” in no way implies that this is an album solely rooted in the band’s past. Certainly, all of the hallmarks that have made their sound so compelling for close to two decades are present and correct: muscular yet lithe riffs and fluid leads play against gripping, dynamic and at times unpredictable rhythms, while rich melodies and lyrics that are both involved and intelligent wind their way through every track. But, once more, the groove metal unit has continued their steady evolution – the interplay between their members organic and natural, imbuing the record’s sixty-two-minute running time with a freshness and urgency. Founding member Chris “OJ” Ojeda states, “The first few albums, you’re trying to find your sound, and sometimes you tend to not see the forest for the trees. Now, on album number six, it seems a calmness took hold during the songwriting process, possibly from just having more confidence in our sound. At this point, our fans expect us to experiment and push our boundaries, which is an extremely liberating feeling.”

The Cicada Tree track-listing
1. New Ways to Bear Witness
2. Vile Maxim
3. Map of the Creator
4. Dead as Autumn Leaves
5. Trapjaw
6. The Subjugated
7. Incremental

9. Verses of Violence
10. Moving in Stereo (The Cars cover)
