Good Tiger to release “Redux” EP; new video for “Float On” streaming now

– February 11th, 2019 –

Good Tiger will be releasing a remix EP entitled “Redux” to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the release of “We Will All Be Gone.” The EP features remixes from the band, as well as from some of their friends.

Guitarist Dez Nagle explains: Guitarist Dez Nagle explains: “Track one was done by the band and set off the idea of doing the EP. Thankfully, we know a number of extremely talented musicians who could be involved on the EP. There are remixes by Periphery guitarist and electronic artist in his own right, Jake Bowen, L.A producer Ahh-Ceh, and NYC based post-rock electronic group, Infinity Shred. We felt a simplified acoustic arrangement of “Salt” would be a great way to wrap everything up.

It was extremely fun revisiting these tracks and seeing how other artists we admire approach reimagining the original compositions we had made on WWABG.

Redux” track listing:
1. Such a Kind Stranger (Redux)
2. Float On (Jake Bowen Remix)
3. Blueshift (Ahh-Ceh Remix)
4. Grip Shoes (Infinity Shred Remix)
5. Salt of the Earth (Acoustic)

The remix of “Such A Kind Stranger” will be launched on all digital music services on March 7th. The EP will become available to stream in full on March 22nd. Additionally, a new video for “Float On”, shot and edited by WAFKA (wyattclough.com), is now streaming at: blacklightmediarecords.com/goodtiger

Morgoth Guitarist Carsten Otterbach Dies After Battle w/ Multiple Sclerosis

Morgoth’s founding member and guitarist Carsten Otterbach has passed away after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. The 48-year-old played on the band’s first two EPs, “Resurrection Absurd” (1989) and “The Eternal Fall” (1990), as well as the first three full-length albums, “Cursed” (1991), “Odium” (1993) and “Feel Sorry For The Fanatic” (1996).

Robert Kampf (Century Media Records co-founder), whose label released all of Morgoth’s studio efforts, issued the below statement concerning Carsten Otterbach’s death:

“With a very heavy heart, I learned that a close friend of 28 years, Carsten Otterbach, has passed. Carsten had a decade long battle with MS (multiple sclerosis). While he was a trooper and battled it hard for a long time, it was one of those battles that eventually take you down. I will always remember Carsten as a very sharp-minded, well-read, business-savvy and, at the same time, very fun-loving, tolerant and simply great guy. He will always live in my heart.

Carsten fought very hard for his artists and was honorable as it gets. Legendary are the fights between my late partner Oliver Withöft and Carsten. The two of them fighting was scary if you were in the room, but always a fun story afterwards. Both were good friends and, unfortunately, did not make it to age 50.

Farewell, Carsten. You will not be forgotten and will be held in very high acclaim by your friends and by several generations of metal artist.”

“The Mirror Black” (Featuring Rob Miller)

The pre-order for this digital release starts next week, December 7th, 2018.

At The Gates vocalist Tomas Lindberg checked in with the following comment about the 7” EP release: “The idea of getting guest vocalists on board for the bonus tracks for the album was us trying something new again…This time we wanted to get other artists involved in our music, getting their takes on our new songs. It was a pleasure working with everybody and all songs grew immensely in the process. The songs we did with Rob Miller was for me personally something extra. Of course, people who know me, know that I am a massive Amebix fan. And I love the more recent stuff with Tau Cross too. I had no idea what to expect. But the songs grew so goddamn much together with Rob‘s powerful voice. We decided early on that these versions were worthy of their own release. This is for me personally one of the greatest achievements of my career, to share the vocal space with one of my favourite vocalists of all time. I am so proud of this release. Hope everyone else gets as much joy out of it as I do.”

Metal Underground caught up with At The Gates guitarist Martin Larsson at this year’s Bloodstock Open Air festival, in which the musician hinted that new music could come sooner than people expect.

Armored Saint and Metal Monkey Brewing join forces for “Symbol Of Salvation” Belgian Blonde Ale

– November 26th, 2018 –

Available at Decibel Metal & Beer Fest: Los Angeles; Armored Saint announces signing at Decibel Metal & Beer Fest: Los Angeles

Decibel Metal & Beer Fest: Los Angeles (Dec. 1st and 2nd), presented by Metal Blade Records, continues its mission of pairing the most extreme minds in music and craft beer with “Symbol Of Salvation” Belgian Blonde Ale – a collaboration between Armored Saint (who will be performing at the SOLD-OUT official festival pre-party) and participating brewery Metal Monkey Brewing (Romeoville, IL). Brewed with Grains of Paradise and Pacifica hops, “Symbol Of Salvation” offers a slight twist on the traditional style; the Grains of Paradise add a slightly spicy, woody character, while the Pacifica hops bring to the party an aroma and flavor reminiscent of orange marmalade. The beer will first be tapped at the Decibel Metal & Beer Fest: Los Angeles – where Armored Saint will also be signing at 7PM on Dec. 1st. Enjoy “Symbol Of Salvation” with Armored Saint at the festival by purchasing your ticket now at: decibelmagazine.com

Brewmasters Dan Camp and Jason Janes started Metal Monkey Brewing out of a shared love for craft beer and heavy metal. Together they have over 20 years of brewing experience, with the last three spent building up the brewery portfolio, experimenting with styles and ingredients, and spreading word of their brews far and wide. Regarding the making of “Symbol Of Salvation”, Metal Monkey Brewing comments:

“Metal Monkey got to hang out with Fates Warning after their Joliet, IL and Milwaukee, WI dates during their 2017 Theories of Flight tour. It was basically two nights of bonding over the magic of music and beer. When Armored Saint came through Chicago earlier this year as part of their tour to celebrate ‘Symbol Of Salvation’ we had the chance to do it all over again.
Since then, we’ve kept in touch with Joey Vera with an eye toward working together in the future. After we were added to the brewery lineup for the Decibel Metal & Beer Festival, we immediately got in touch with Joey because it was the perfect opportunity to turn a hypothetical into a reality.
Working with Joey has been a blast. He’s he made music that’s been a fixture in our lives and he shares our love of beer and our passion for creativity. It’s been an honor to pair up and create a fun, flavorful beer that sidesteps conventional expectations.
We’re proud to debut ‘Symbol Of Salvation’, our Belgian Blonde Ale brewed in collaboration with and in celebration of Armored Saint and their iconic album, at the Decibel Metal & Beer Festival. Everything about this beer was born of a shared love for the art of brewing that, much like heavy metal in all its forms, affords endless possibilities.”

Armored Saint‘s Joey Vera adds: “We are super excited to announce that we have made a great craft beer in collaboration with Metal Monkey Brewery from Romeoville, Il! Aside from being Metal Heads, these guys are great brewers who are not afraid of going outside the box! Together, we’ve created a killer Belgian Blonde Ale that we stand tall behind! Welcome to ‘Symbol Of Salvation’ Belgian Blonde Ale! Come on out to the Decibel Beer Fest, meet the band, meet our brew, get a taste of ‘Symbol Of Salvation’ Belgian Blonde Ale!”

About Metal Monkey Brewing:
Metal Monkey Brewing takes pride in a comfortable taproom that provides customers with a laid-back environment conducive to socializing and sampling great beers. With 16 taps, there’s something for everyone, at any time, across a broad range of styles. Well-known beers like Asmodeus, a Russian Imperial Stout (in its standard and various barrel-aged forms), Up & Atom, an award-winning coffee brown ale, Tony’s Car, the brewery’s flagship Double IPA, and Monkey Fuel, an award-winning Belgian Tripel showcase Metal Monkey’s balance between reverence for the history and traditions of craft beer and the excitement of experimentation and innovation.

Artery Recordings Sold to Warner Bros. Records – Entire Staff Has Been Let Go

Warner Bros. Records has acquired Artery Recordings. In a statement former president Shan Dan Horan confirms the news, which saw the entire staff of the label let go:

“To address the rumors, yes, Artery has been sold to Warner. I can’t disclose too much about the deal, but building up this company to a million record sales in just five years is a tremendous accomplishment for the fans, our artists and the team. I’m humbled and appreciate each and every band I’ve ever had the honor of developing at Artery Recordings. As we hand over the keys to Warner, I’m not quite sure their plans for the label or catalog, but I hope they keep the legacy alive. With new Slaves and Capture albums on the horizon, I’m sure the fans will be ecstatic.”

In the past Artery Recordings’ output included releases from Attila, Chelsea Grin, Kublai Khan and various others. Vents guitarist Jacob Harmond of Chelsea Grin, who put out 3 albums through the label, on the matter via Twitter:

Lol. So fucking wack. That label would be nothing without CG and Attila, and we don’t get SHIT for royalities. Bum ass shit ?????? https://t.co/ghQ17sXLRF

Accept Announces New Album, Special Wacken Show

The heavy metal pioneers from Accept just finished an extensive European tour and have announced that they are immediately back in the game with a new studio album. This record, entitled “The Rise Of Chaos,” will be unleashed on August 4th, 2017.

The band’s 4th studio release through Nuclear Blast will continue the tradition of its three predecessors – “Blood Of The Nations,” “Stalingrad,” and “Blind Rage” – with grandeur and precision.

And if this wasn’t enough, Accept will celebrate the album’s live premiere exclusively on August 3rd, on the day before its release, as a part of a special show at Wacken Open Air, Germany. The set will consist of three parts, which represent the band’s creative power:

– Part 1 will bring fans a classic Accept set, packed with new and old hits.

– Part 2 will present another premiere: Wolf Hoffmann will be playing tracks from his solo album “Headbangers Symphony” released in 2016, with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra for the very first time. On this record, Wolf has covered famous opuses by composers such as Beethoven, Vivaldi, and Mozart, in a metal guise.

– Part 3 features all elements seen and heard together: Accept will make the holy Wacken ground shake by sharing the stage with the orchestra, supported by a complex multimedia show.

Wolf Hoffmann stated: “It’s always impressive to see how bands take this evening seriously and how much love the artists and the organising team put into their work to get a varied result. It’s a great tradition which underlines and documents the top-notch level of the international rock community like nothing else. We also want to present something that Accept has never done before, we hope we can give something really special to the fans.”

Thomas Jensen, organizer of Wacken Open Air, comments: “Accept have been and are still a very important part of Germany’s heavy metal scene. We’re really looking forward to having them with us once more. With this epic concept, the Thursday evening will be one to remember for sure.”

Northlane Releases Surprise Album “Mesmer”

Northlane just released surprise fourth album “Mesmer” worldwide. The album appeared with no forewarning on digital services this morning.

Recorded throughout September 2016 in New Jersey with producer David Bendeth (Bring Me The Horizon, Paramore, A Day To Remember), this is Northlane’s defining statement, presented directly to the fans in an unorthodox manner. The band comments:

“Through determination, hard work, sacrifice, and a bit of luck, we are able to travel the world taking our music to fans both old and new. We’re able to spend time crafting the music we want to hear with the benefit of not having to leave the studio early to go and work a job. To an artist, these are real luxuries. We appreciate them more than anything and we’re in the position of being able to do this because of you — our incredible fans who continue to support us. You free us to be the artists we want to be.

“This is our way of rewarding our fans for everything they’ve given us. What our music means to you is what it means to us. Art is an experience, and to us it reserves no room for competition, and the only accolade that matters to us is the place this holds in your heart.

“Releasing ‘Mesmer’ in this way has been right for us at this moment in time. We have grown immeasurably as people and as a band through the toughest recording process we’ve ever endured. We’ve been tested every step of the way and have come out the other side with something we are truly proud of. We didn’t want to keep it from you a moment longer than we had to. We felt we owed it to this album to try and think creatively about every aspect of the way people would experience Mesmer, like a gift from us to you that is being unboxed. We wanted to make everyon’s discovery of this moment special.”
