Mini episode documentary clips from new documentary and live album(s), ‘The Pursuit Of Vikings: 25 Years In The Eye Of The Storm’

Amon Amarth has released their new documentary and supporting live album(s), The Pursuit Of Vikings: 25 Years In The Eye Of The Storm – which includes a retrospective documentary that features a wealth of live and behind-the-scenes content and extensive band interviews. This film tells the Swedish quintet’s history, through both their own eyes and those of the fans that have supported them along the way. It is a thrilling collection that pays respect to the faithful, as well as making for a detailed and riveting introduction for those new to their inspiring story. Paired with this documentary is the live video/audio, which contains two different sets at 2017′s Summer Breeze Festival in Dinkelsbuhl, Germany, capturing the unit at their very best.

Having played the German festival numerous times over the years, and loving the family vibe they have always experienced there, Amon Amarth leapt at the chance to appear twice in the same year. Playing a secret, smaller scale set that focused primarily on older material, and then headlining the main stage with full production – including their giant sea serpent and lots of fire – allowed them to showcase their songs at their best – though putting together setlists from such a mighty catalogue was not the easiest of tasks. “For the first night, we wanted to write a set that the fans would enjoy by wholly diving into our back catalog but also keeping it interesting,” explains guitarist Olavi Mikkonen. “But putting the two shows together also made us realize that we have a lot of songs to choose from!”

For the band, producer Alexander Milas (who contributed to Kerrang! and was an award-winning editor-in-chief of Metal Hammer, before starting his own creative solutions company, Twin V Ltd.) and director Phil Wallis, The Pursuit Of Vikings has been a true labor of love. “I think I first became conscious of Amon Amarth around the release of 2002′s ‘Versus the World‘,” Milas states. “It was a really transitional time for metal, and it seemed there wasn’t a credible band on the heavier end of the scale that hadn’t in some way responded to or been influenced by the pioneering sounds of the Swedish death metal scene, but I distinctly remember thinking that there was something unique about these guys: the artwork, the thematic underpinnings, even that curiously timeless logo.” While their sound certainly displays strong echoes of the nation that birthed them, Amon Amarth arguably wield a unique aura, a “lusciously crafted escapism” that Milas likens to the classic bands he grew up with: Dio, Iron Maiden, and others who exist on a spectrum of their own making.

For a preview of The Pursuit Of Vikings, a new clip from the documentary (plus previously released live videos) can be viewed now at: amonamarth.lnk.to/pursuitofvikings – where the DVD/live album can also be pre-ordered in the following formats via Metal Blade Records in the USA:

Amon Amarth and Ride & Crash Games Launch New Viking Mobile Video Game In 80′s Retro Style

– November 20th, 2017 –

Available immediately, Swedish heavy metal titans Amon Amarth (Metal Blade Records/Sony Music International) – in partnership with Swedish video game developer and publisher Ride & Crash Games AB – has unleashed a new Amon Amarth mobile video game!

The Game. You are Thor and your mission is simple: cleanse Midgard from all of the vile creatures that are threatening the (*ahem*) peaceful Viking way of life. There are three keys to ensure your success:

(1) your hammer, Mjolnir;
(2) your control of the freakin’ thunder and lightning!; and
(3) your fighting spirit is always high thanks to Amon Amarth‘s epic music in retro style blasting from over the horizons and into your ears.

The unique game features four worlds, four epic battles, 12 unique levels and 13 different Amon Amarth tracks with retro video game sounds!

The game is available worldwide to the public for iOS and Android Phones and Tablets for a retail price of $8.99. This link redirects the mobile or tablet user to their correct App Store: tosto.re/amonamarthgame

The idea for the game was conceived in the fall of 2015 when Robert Chirico Willstedt, a video game producer in Stockholm and founder of Ride & Crash Games AB, met Amon Amarth. Robert and the band bonded over epic amounts of beer and a common love of video games, and they started discussing how cool it would be if they could create a video game for Amon Amarth. There and then, the idea was born of a retro style Viking platformer with Amon Amarth music in ’80s sounding square wave format. Robert hand-picked a team of developers and designers to realize the game concept. The band met the development team continuously during the development process to ensure the end product would stay true to the initial vision of the game. This is an authentic Amon Amarth product.

Grab Mjolnir. Blast Amon Amarth. Save Midgard.

Amon Amarth announces USA tour with Goatwhore

– January 30th, 2017 –

After touring the world this past year in support of their new album, Jomsviking, Amon Amarth will head back out on the road this spring for a USA tour with Goatwhore! Starting April 30th, the trek also features select appearances by Amon Amarth at some of the nation’s premier music festivals: “Welcome to Rockville”, “Carolina Rebellion”, “Dark Lord Day”, “Northern Invasion”, and “Rock on the Range”.

Amon Amarth comments: “United States! We return to your lands this Spring and we will raid and plunder your little cities as we please. For the first time we will be sailing our longships towards the curious native celebrations called ‘The Loudest Month’ (Welcome To Rockville, Northern Invasion, Carolina Rebellion & Rock On The Range) where we will sack and burn them to the ground and feast on the spoils. Our good friends in the almighty Goatwhore will be joining us on this voyage on all headline shows. You have been warned.”

Goatwhore‘s Ben Falgoust (vocals) adds: “We are looking forward to hitting the road with Amon Amarth and playing some raw as fuck metal for you people. Show up with your anger and let’s make some chaos happen. I know you all need to vent some issues. Let’s do it together and crush the opposition. I also hope by the end of this tour I can try to be as cool as Joe Grindo from Theories.”

As the band’s first concept record in their storied career, Jomsviking tells a tragic, original tale of conflict and revenge, backed by the Swedes’ trademark melodic, anthemic metal – which was produced and mixed once again by Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Testament, Accept). For their efforts, Amon Amarth landed on the global charts this past year (including a #11 spot on the USA Current Album Billboard Chart!).
