Beneath Posts “Eyecatcher” Lyric Video

Next month, Icelandic death metal unit Beneath will unleash third full-length album, “Ephemeris.” Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Fredrik Nordström at the acclaimed Studio Fredman in the fall of 2016, “Ephemeris” features new recruit Mike Heller at the drum stool.

The result is nine tracks of relentless brutality, and today one of those cuts comes online. Check out the “Eyecatcher” lyric video below.

Notes guitarist Unnar Sigurðsson: “‘Ephemeris’ is our very best release so far. We wanted to do an album more dynamic and natural than those before and we are extremely proud of the outcome. It has elements from all of us combined into something very different from the other releases.”

Adds Jóhann Ingi Sigurðsson, “‘Ephemeris’ has been a demanding album for us personally and in many ways, it represents a turning point for the band. We’ve always pushed ourselves in ways that keep us invested and engaged in our music, and on this album, that meant making big changes to our overall sound. There are songs that are a marriage of pure heaviness and brutality, while on the other spectrum there are some very challenging technical arrangements pushing the limits of our playing abilities. In the end, we ended up with an album that feels musically multidimensional and that we are extremely proud of.”

Destrage launches guitar play-through for ‘To Be Tolerated’

– July 6th, 2017 –

You can try to put Destrage in a box but you will never succeed. Words such as “progressive”, “cinematic”, “mathcore”, “technical” and “groove-laden”, could be thrown at them, but really the only one you need is Destrage, for they are in a category of their own making. This has never been more true than on A Means To No End, the fourth full-length from the Milan, Italy-based 5-piece, which was released last October via Metal Blade Records. Riveting from start to finish, it leads the listener through an emotionally-charged labyrinth of complex yet catchy melody and muscle, following nobody’s rules, and it stands out as one of the truly unique releases of 2016.

For a preview of A Means To No End, Destrage has now launched a play-through video by Camilla Boro (Sandhog Music Production) for the album track “To Be Tolerated” (featuring guitarist Ralph Salati), which can be viewed at: youtube.com/watch?v=aQlFp7XgxNA

First Ever Live DVD/CD “Live At Masters Of Rock” Announced By Korpiklaani

One does not simply stop Korpiklaani. For the first time ever, the Finns have captured and immortalized the power of the live performance on the first ever live Blu-ray/DVD+2CD package titled “Live at Masters of Rock,” which is due to be released on August 25th via Nuclear Blast.

After hearing its title, it’s easy to conclude that the performance was recorded at the identically named festival in Vizovice, Czech Republic. But there’s even more to be excited about since this release doesn’t just include Korpiklaani’s show from 2016, it also houses a second full show from 2014 as a bonus feature. The 2016 concert features guest appearances from Tero Hyväluoma (additional fiddler) as well as Toni Perttula (additional accordion player), Sami’s identical twin brother. The mixing and mastering of “Live at Masters of Rock” were both handled by frontman Jonne Järvelä.

Jonne comments: “This our first ever DVD release, and we are quite proud of it. It has no backing tracks, no choirs, no samples, all the mistakes are included. It is just us, Korpiklaani, pure live rock ‘n’ roll… I spent a lot of time during the mastering process with Svante Forsbäck who recently handled the Rammestein mastering and we worked very hard to get the right ambience and crowd sound. So when you turn it up loud, it feels like you are right there in the thick of it.”

Enepsigos Signs Record Deal With Osmose Productions

With debut full-length album “Plague of Plagues” released at the beginning of the year on Drakkar Productions, and with work progressing steadily on the follow-up album, black metal crew Enepsigos has now inked a deal with Osmose Productions.

The band was formed in the summer of 2016 by V.I.T.H.R, otherwise known as Doedsadmiral, the founder and frontman of Nordjevel, Svartelder, and Doedsvangr. For this project, V.I.T.H.R has called on the services of former Sarkom guitarist Straff and drummer Thorns (Blut Aus Nord, Fides Inversa, Frostmoon Eclipse).

Commenting on the decision to sign with Osmose, V.I.T.H.R had this to say: “It was a natural progression to a bigger label who could take us further along the road. I already knew how Osmose worked, because Nordjevel is signed with them, and it has been a close collaboration, with everyone having an input and exchanging ideas. It’s a very productive way to work as far as I’m concerned.”

Details Of New Album “Thrice Woven” Issued By Wolves In The Throne Room

Wolves in the Throne Room re-imagines black metal as an ode to rain storms, wood smoke and the wild energies of the Pacific Northwest. The band is considered one of the most potent and highly regarded in heavy metal today. Now, a portal into the mythic ethereal heathen landscape opens once again as on September 22nd the new album “Thrice Woven” will unleash on the band’s own Artemisia Records. The release is a glorious return to the blazing and furious black betal that the band alone can create.

The album begins with “Born From the Serpent’s Eye” a true thrashing black metal epic that is bisected with a haunting northern lament sung by Swedish star Anna von Hausswolff. The band worked with metal documentarians Peter Beste and Nico Poalillo to create a video for this track which captures a bonfire-lit performance in the forest near their Olympia compound. More on this very soon; to tide us over, check out a trailer that hints at what’s to come in the player below.

“The Old Ones Are With Us” opens with the crackling of a fire and the voice of Steve Von Till (Neurosis) invoking the springtime thaw. It then storms into a dirge inspired by 90’s Finnish doom with lyrics that celebrate Imbolc, the holy day which marks the end of winter and the first stirrings of spring. Figures from Norse mythology intertwine with personal heartbreak and rebirth in the bleak “Angrboda.” The song is named after a frost giantess who birthed Fenrir Wolf, a beast who was destined to destroy the world and murder the gods.

Fenrir Wolf also appears on the cover of “Thrice Woven” in a painting by Russian occult artist Denis Forkas. Forkas’ obscure medieval painting techniques perfectly compliment the music of Wolves in the Throne Room, you can explore the glimmering painting at the bottom of this post.

A raven’s wings stir the air in the interlude “Mother Owl, Father Ocean”. Anna von Hausswolff returns in a duet with Turkish harpist Zeynep Oyku, forlorn industrial atmospheres haunt the mix, Hausswolff’s lyrics, sung in Swedish, echo over a barren grey seascape. “Fires Roar in the Palace of the Moon” is the classic Cascadian Black Metal epic, the third eye opens to see holy rivers being born from the ice on the tallest peaks, the lyrics offer blessings to the waters of the earth as they flow from the high places to the source of darkness, the ocean.

When the band returned to the road in summer 2016 long-time touring guitar player Kody Keyworth was welcomed as a full member of Wolves in the Throne Room. On “Thrice Woven,” Kody contributes raven’s screams and some of the most brutal and dark riffs. The live line-up also features Peregrine Somerville (Sadhaka) playing 3rd guitar and Brittany McConnell (Wolvserpent) on keyboards and percussion. The effect of three guitars on stage is mesmerizing and reflects the dark psychedelia of the band’s albums.

The track listing is:

1. Born from the Serpent’s Eye
2. The Old Ones Are With Us
3. Angrboda
4. Mother Owl, Father Ocean
5. Fires Roar in the Palace of the Moon
