Ty Arthur Releasing New Grimdark Novel “Light Dawning”

Following his debut sci-fi novella “Empty” from 2016, heavy metal scribe Ty Arthur (Metalunderground.com’s very own xFiruath) returns with new full-length horror novel “Light Dawning.” Pivoting away from the emptiness of space, the book dives headlong into the waters of fantasy, but with a seriously grimdark twist. This next foray into the bleaker corners of human existence is officially slated for release on Friday, May 26th, 2017.

Like its predecessor, the creation of “Light Dawning” was driven forward by the power of music, with special thanks in particular due to U.K. avant-garde black metal group Code, Norwegian musical enigma Ihsahn, and Chilean prog rock group Bauda. To get an advance preview of the themes and tone of the novel, a music playlist matching several scenes can be heard via Spotify here or in the player below.

Once known as the City on the Hill and revered far and wide for its independence and boundless opportunity, Cestia has become home only to the damned. Surviving under the brutal occupation of a southern empire for three long years, the oppressed populace has lost hope of liberation, turning instead towards an increasingly desperate rebellion willing to commit any atrocity for a chance at freedom.

As total war approaches, four lost souls trapped behind Cestia’s walls are on a collision course with fate, destined to either save the city or see it utterly destroyed while calling on forces beyond mankind’s comprehension. For good or ill, the light of a new day is about to dawn.

“As with all my work, this story is inspired by a real life experience translated into a fictional setting, and completing this book took a lot out of me,” Arthur said of the upcoming release. “Its set in an unquestionably fantasy universe, but don’t expect any elves or farm boy chosen ones saving the world. My take on the genre draws more from cosmic dread and the horror of war than anything with unlikely heroes or lovable rogues. Don’t expect any happy endings.”

Social Arsonist Gearing Up For Spring Tour Dates

Chilean/Canadian thrash hybrid Social Arsonist will be hitting the road for dates across British Columbia and Alberta for the month of May, which will then be followed by a tour of Chile and a return to Canada to perform at the Loud As Hell festival in Drumheller, AB (full dates listed below).

Formed in Chile in 2009 by bassist Dario Zuniga and guitarist Manuel Morgado, the two musicians were unable to locate the perfect vocalist in their home country and turned the web. Finding Canadian singer Cayle Charlton, the duo worked with him for years via the internet, honing material before taking the ultimate step of relocating to Canada.

With a full line up in Vancouver, BC, the fiery crucible of Chilean thrash met the icy cauldron of Canadian metal to create an explosive storm built on a foundation of classic thrash and modern metal resulting in two releases: 2016 full-length “Duality of Perception” and 2014 debut EP “De-Evolution of Thy Self.”

Don Jamieson launches new track, “Weed, Cigs, Election 2016″, online

– April 17th, 2017 –

On Friday (April 21st), former “That Metal Show” host and comedian Don Jamieson will release his new comedy album, Communication Breakdown, via Metal Blade Records. Recorded at The Funny Stop in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Communication Breakdown‘s title and cover come from Don‘s Rutgers University senior yearbook photo. Don explains: “My young nieces and nephews found the photo at my mom’s house and starting texting me how funny it was, and when I saw it again after so many years, I agreed! I majored in communication, so it was just a matter of adding the ‘Breakdown’ to it, which is obviously something you never want to happen in comedy.” For a preview of Communication Breakdown, the track “Weed, Cigs, Election 2016″ can be heard at: metalblade.com/donjamieson – where the album can also be pre-ordered, and the previously released track, “Kiefer”, can be streamed.

Communication Breakdown track-listing:
01. Dave Mustaine Riffs, Intervention, Baby in the Drain
02. Sober, Finger-Banging, Drunk Logic
03. Weed, Cigs, Election 2016
04. Kiefer
05. Myrtle Beach
06. Free Clinic, Raccoons
07. Rockers Aren’t P.C.
08. Where Have All the Rock Stars Gone?
09. Rocking Women, Viking Metal, Big Four
10. Vagina No-No’s, Van Fucker, Doggie Style
11. Dating at 50, Threesome (Almost)
12. Brad & Angelina, Great Head, Mr. Brownstone
13. Johnny Depp

Named one of the top 10 metalhead comedians by Revolver Magazine, Don has captured some of his most irreverent work to-date on his third album, Communication Breakdown. Don explains: “This album has tons of jokes but really revolves around 4 or 5 longer stories, which is something I’ve never really done before. I usually just like shot gunning jokes like beers at a frat party, but this time around I tried something a little different. It took a while to develop them for the stage but am really happy with the way they turned out, particularly the track ‘Kiefer’, which is a true story about a crazy night with the ’24′ actor.
Other than that, there’s a little bit of something for everyone on this disc, and I hope people who buy or steal it enjoy it as much as I do.”

Over the last 4 year period Suffocation has taken its time to write this record and we couldn’t be prouder. It is our most brutal record yet!

“Suffocation worked through the end of 2016 to hash out and lay down the tracks at Full Force Studios with Joe Cincotta and once again enlisted Zeuss to bring this creation to life! Myself, Frank Mullen, Charles Errigo, Eric Morotti and Derek Boyer have all pushed the limit of what Suffocation is and we hope you enjoy it!

“We also had the honor of having Colin Marks handling our artwork which is a new frontier for us and a different avenue and style to the traditional Suffocation records. We also including some backup vocals from Kevin Muller (The Merciless Concept) which for us makes this album very unique! This will be our 10th studio release and we really hope you like ‘…Of The Dark Light!’ Keep the grind alive and hope to see you on the road!”
