Blaze Bayley Announces Iron Maiden Anniversary Shows

Blaze Bayley, singer with Iron Maiden from 1994 to 1999, announces that he will be playing a special Iron Maiden setlist at selected festival appearances in 2019. Choosing songs from his era with the band, these shows will celebrate 25 years since Blaze joined Iron Maiden. This will be the first and last opportunity to see such a setlist.

Blaze, who releases a new album and DVD, Live In France, on March 1st, and has just returned from a successful stint touring Latin America, sees this as the perfect opportunity to celebrate his time in Maiden which was such a positive experience and influence on his career as a whole.

Blaze has this to say, “25 years ago my great adventure with Iron Maiden began. It was a wonderful five years in my career and something I’m very proud of. Since then I have toured almost every year, and made 11 studio albums and three live albums. Recently, many fans have asked me to perform songs from the two albums I recorded with Iron Maiden, so this year to celebrate that magical time, I’m doing a full set of my favourite songs from the X-Factor and Virtual XI albums at festivals. My voice has developed and changed since my time as lead vocalist with Iron Maiden. Now I feel I’m singing better than ever, so I’m very excited about singing those old songs with the voice I have now.”

These festivals will feature a special Iron Maiden setlist from Blaze Bayley:

June 6 – Sweden Rock – Sweden
June 14 – Rock The Coast – Spain
July 27 – Headbangers Open Air – Germany
August 9 – Mannried Open Air – Switzerland
August 10 – Dark River Festival – Finland

The band at these shows will be Blaze’s regular touring and recording outfit taken from British band Absolva, plus Iced Earth bassist / Absolva guitarist Luke Appleton. The lineup is as follows:

Chris Appleton – guitar and backing vocals
Luke Appleton – guitar and backing vocals
Martin Mcnee – drums
Karl Schramm – bass and backing vocals

Chris Appleton adds, “Normally when we perform as Blaze’s band we are a four-piece including Blaze, so just myself on lead guitar and that really works for us. But for these Maiden sets, we think it’s really cool to bring in my brother Luke as second guitarist to enhance the Maiden feel. It’s an honour for us to play these songs with Blaze, increasingly recognised as an important chapter in Maiden’s history.”

Exhorder Signs With Nuclear Blast Records

New Orleans based thrash metal pioneers Exhorder have signed to Nuclear Blast Records!

Comments vocalist Kyle Thomas:
“The excitement level of Exhorder being in contract negotiations once again is higher for us than we can express. Coming to an agreement with Nuclear Blast has inspired us to bring our writing to new heights. People still want to hear this band, as was evident in the reaction to our performances in 2018. Nuclear Blast strongly wants to help facilitate this venture, and for that we are truly excited and grateful. I am looking forward to seeing what we can make happen together over the next few years. The roster at Nuclear Blast speaks for itself, as well as the presence of Monte Conner and Jaap Wagemaker on the team. Be on the lookout, because Exhorder is heading your way once again!”

Adds guitarist Vinnie LaBella:
“What an incredible honour it is to be added to the Nuclear Blast family! We’ve had such a great year already, and now this! We are so proud and could not be in better company moving forward. We are excited for the future. We realise we turned in a couple of classics back in the day and it’s been 27 years since we released our last record. And while those past successes are notable, we feel in our hearts like this new record will be our first record, and we couldn’t have a better partner in NB to bring it to you. New management, new line up, new label, new record, new Exhorder!”

Exhorder were formed in 1985 by a group of friends who wanted to break out of the hardcore scene and had a passion for the heaviest music in the world. They are considered progenitors of the groove-oriented thrash sound later made famous by bands such as Pantera, Lamb Of God, White Zombie, and Machine Head. Coming after years of demos, their debut LP “Slaughter In The Vatican” (1990) was regarded as a major influence on the NOLA metal scene and saw them rapidly rise on the world stage as one of the defining thrash acts of their generation. Their second (and to date last album) The Law was released in 1992 and adopted more of a groove metal sound. It saw the band reach their peak of popularity, unfortunately bad luck and external pressures lead to the demise of the group in 1994.

With the underground remaining steadfast in their dedication to the band, they have since reunited with the lineup from The Law on several occasions. With these reunions they have played Maryland Deathfest, Rock Hard, and countless others. The reunion was cut short in 2011 with the untimely passing of their classic-era bassist Frankie Sparcello. Now the band is back, reunited and hungrier than ever to take on the world. With a boatload of festival dates on the way along with select club shows the New Orleans boys are here to show the world once more what it takes to thrash it up.

Amorphis Reveal New Album’s Title, Cover & Release Date

AMORPHIS have finally finished recording their upcoming new studio album, entitled ‘Queen Of Time’. The record is scheduled for a May 18th release, via Nuclear Blast. In comparison to its predecessor, ‘Under The Red Cloud’ (2015), the album will include the use of real strings, flutes, orchestral arrangements and even choirs! In addition, this will be the first time that people will be able to hear their lyricist Pekka Kainulainen on the album as he contributes a speech in Finnish.

Today, the band unveils some more details on the production, the album title, the album cover (see above) and on working with their new/old bassist Olli-Pekka Laine.

The album was once again produced by the famous Jens Bogren (OPETH, AMON AMARTH, KREATOR, and many others), who is well-known for challenging, and motivating, the artists during the recording process. He isn’t afraid to push them to their limits!

Esa comments:

“I guess ‘Queen Of Time’ turned out as a massive surprise to all of us. During the rehearsing and pre-production we didn’t have any idea that Jens had this huge picture inside of his head about the landscape of the album. It’s a very natural continuation to ‘Under The Red Cloud’ but with steroids. The songs are more aggressive but there’s more dynamics, harmonies and orchestral arrangements present. The result is AMORPHIS as something you’ve never heard before! Essentially, working with Jens worked really well. As a person he is very similar to us – we share the same kind of weird humor and we all like to work hard.”

The cover artwork, which was created once again by French artist Jean ”Valnoir” Simoulin from Metastazis, captures the feeling of the lyrics and the music. With Pekka Kainulainen’s (lyricist) words, the lyrical theme is universal: “Cultures rise, flourish, and are destroyed. The story of man is the story of searching, finding, and forgetting. A single spark can set the world afire, a single idea can give birth to a new culture. The greatest can stagnate into insignificance, the smallest can hold the power for change. The lyrics on this album are distant echoes of ancient forest peoples, from a time when meaning was proportioned by the cosmic forces that govern birth and death. If the connection was lost, they sought for a strand of knowledge, found a new direction, and a new age began.”

‘Queen Of Time’ will be also the first album with their old/new bass player Olli-Pekka ‘Oppu’ Laine following the departure of Niclas Etelävuori in 2017. Oppu was one of the founding members in 1990 and recorded the first seven records with AMORPHIS (‘The Karelian Isthmus’ LP, 1992; ‘Privilege Of Evil’ EP, 1993; ‘Tales From The Thousand Lakes’ LP, 1994; ‘Black Winter Day’ EP, 1995; ‘Elegy’ LP, 1996; ‘My Kantele’ EP, 1997 and the ‘Tuonela’ LP, 1999) before he parted ways with the band in spring 2000.

“To be honest, ‘Oppu’ was the only guy we could imagine being in AMORPHIS. It was funny – when we started to play our first shows together again last summer it all felt so familiar. He was involved with arranging songs and he also even brought some new songs to the table… really good ones, too!” says Esa. And Oppu adds: “Even though the last year with AMORPHIS has been exciting, nostalgic and fun, it’s also been truly comfortable to be with the guys again. As a clichéd expression, it’s been like returning home from a lengthy odyssey. After eighteen years, it feels like we are picking up where we left off from the good ol’ days! I’m really looking forward for the upcoming tour. The new album itself is a really strong package, the only hard thing will be picking which songs to play live! It’s safe to say we are set to pull off some killer shows over the next few years. After that, I’m predicting a long and fruitful career for the band in its current form…”

The band will soon kick off pre-orders for ‘Queen Of Time’ and release their first single, so stay tuned!

Soulfly plays Nailbomb’s “Point Blank” at Tampa Show on 11/01/2017

Those who follow closely the career of Brazilian Metal icon, Max Cavalera, know that Nailbomb’s “Point Blank” (his album collaboration with Fudge Tunnel’s Alex Newport) probably is one of the most in-your-face recordings the legendary musician has ever produced. That’s why Soulfly’s current American tour is so historically-poignant. The Cavalera’s fronted band is playing the aforementioned 1994 classic album in its entirety. Of course, this is a reason to rejoice.

Soulfly—along with fellow openers Lody Kong and Harm’s Way—visited one of Tampa Bay’s premier music venues, The Orpheum, on November 1. They played “Point Blank” from start to finish, castigating the audience with classic Nailbomb fare like the rabid “Wasting Away,” “24 Hour Bullshit”, “Vai Toma No Cú” and “Cockroaches,” among many others.

Even if the crowd was modest in numbers—let’s remember that it happened on a week day, just after Halloween—the response of those present was tremendously energetic. Cavalera commanded the show with his down-to-earth-yet-larger-than-life stage persona. Song after song, he and his band kept everyone on edge, chanting, moshing, singing along and living the mayhem. No doubt, this Brazilian icon and his comrades still are at the top of their musical powers.

During that night at the Orpheum, Soulfly managed to perfectly channel “Point Blank’s” sonic panache. They delivered the most punishing Metal performances witnessed by a Tampa Bay audience this year. If Soulfly visits your town during the remaining dates of this tour, make sure to go and see it. You will be blown away—Nailbomb style.

Lyric Video For New song “Inside/Outside” Posted By Jeff Scott Soto

September 2017 is a special anniversary for Jeff Scott Soto and Frontiers Music Srl as it marks the 13th anniversary of Frontiers releasing Jeff’s album, “Lost In The Translation.” In celebration of this milestone, Jeff Scott Soto has released a video for the song “Inside/Outside” from his upcoming album, “Retribution.” Check it out in the player at the bottom.

Soto describes the song as “[a] great tune that was originally slated as a Talisman song, it remained on Howie Simon’s hard drive until now. With a revised lyric and melody comes this hidden gem, hope you dig it!!’

“Retribution” is set for a November 10th release via Frontiers Music srl, with pre-orders available at this location.

Jeff Scott Soto’s career spans over 30 years. He was first introduced to the public as the vocalist for guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen’s iconic first two solo albums before going on to front the esteemed hard rock band Talisman. He is also one of the vocalists for the wildly popular Trans-Siberian Orchestra, the lead vocalist for supergroup W.E.T. (featuring JSS alongside members of Eclipse and Work Of Art), creative visionary for the more metal leaning SOTO, and frontman for the new supergroup, Sons Of Apollo (which also features Mike Portnoy, Derek Sherinian, Bumblefoot, and Billy Sheehan) amongst many other musical activities he has been and is involved in. He also held a stint fronting Rock N Roll Hall Of Famers Journey and was one of the vocalists for the officially sanctioned Queen tribute, Queen Extravaganza. His incredible voice has led to many invitations to do guest lead or background vocals on a multitude of albums, including, but not limited to. Stryper, Joel Hoekstra, Saigon Kick, Fergie Frederiksen, Lita Ford, Steelheart, and many more.

In 1994, he released his first solo outing “Love Parade”, followed by the acclaimed “Prism” (2002), “Lost In The Translation” (2005), “Beautiful Mess” (2009), and “Damage Control” (2012). “Retribution” is his sixth proper solo studio album.

Having been established in 1979, split in 1994 and reformed in 2008, the melodic metal pioneers kept delivering premium quality in songwriting, ponderous guitar riffing, sophisticated lead guitar cascades garnished with deeply moving to most thrilling vocal lines and metal shouting for the past 31 years since the debut “Unchained” was…well, unchained! The five rockers from Mozart’s birthplace of Salzburg have never lost focus on variety, melodic aspects and harmony all within their very own style.

True metal fans will be pleased that “Anywhere We Dare” sees Speed Limit proudly returning to its musical roots – having started out in the rise of NWoBHM with the likes of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Def Leppard.
