Woe Reveals New Album “Hope Attrition”

U.S. black metal legion Woe will release long-awaited new full-length album “Hope Attrition” this March 17th, 2017 via new label home of Vendetta Records.

The alarming seven-track offering, and first in four years following the “Withdrawal” album (reviewed here), was penned throughout the end of 2015 and most of 2016.

Featuring founding guitarist/vocalist Chris Grigg alongside a monster lineup of longtime contributing bassist Grzesiek Czapla, guitarist Matt Mewton, and drummer Lev Weinstein, “Hope Attrition” is a frenzied but mournful work that draws from Woe’s darkest black metal influences while bringing out dormant death metal undertones.

The album is bolstered by the crushing production of engineer Stephen DeAcutis (Evoken, Dim Mak) at Sound Spa Studios in Edison, New Jersey. “Hope Attrition” is a personal commentary on the chaos of the modern world that only Woe can offer. Grigg relays of the record’s manifestation:

“‘Hope Attrition’ is the result of the most intense writing and demoing process since the first album. The long break from playing and performing gave me the opportunity to approach Woe with a renewed energy and perspective. Grzesiek acted as co-producer and under his watchful eye, I wrote and scrapped nearly another album’s worth of material before settling on these, which then saw fine tuning at the hands of the full band.

“The world itself provided the ultimate motivation and pushed us darker, heavier, more oppressive, resulting in the strongest work in our catalog. We are particularly proud to be working with Vendetta on this release, as they are a partner who shares our dedication to our art.”

1. Unending Call Of Woe
2. No Blood Has Honor
3. A Distant Epitaph
4. The Din Of The Mourning
5. The Ones We Lost
6. Drown Us With Greatness
7. Abject In Defeat

Walls Of Jericho Releases “Forever Militant” Video

Eight years after “The American Dream,” Walls Of Jericho found new allies in Napalm Records and released latest record “No One Can Save You From Yourself” in 2016.

The band centered around power fronter Candace is famous for maddening riffing, downbeats and huge breakdowns. Just in time for the European EMP Persistence tour together with Suicidal Tendencies and Agnostic Front, the band today releases a new music video for the track “Forever Militant.”

Walls Of Jericho commented: “We shot this over the summer of 2016 at With Full Force Festival as a headliner of the main stage. The band really wanted to show the world what our live shows are live no matter what stage we play big or small. Getting ready to support Suicidal Tendencies in 2017 brings us back to Europe in a large club setting and we can’t be more excited to see everyone up close and more personal. ‘Forever Militant’ is a stand out track on our new album so be ready to see us play this song every night on The Persistence Tour.”

Syk Posts “Fong” Music Video

Italian avant extreme metal collective Syk unleashed the maniacal “I-Optikon” full-length album via Housecore Records last month. In commemoration of its release, today a video companion to “Fong” comes online.

“Fong in the I-Ching [an ancient divination text and the oldest of the Chinese classics possessing a history of more than two and a half millennia of commentary and interpretation] indicates abundance; an enlightening moment that comes together with maturity,” elaborates the band. “This is an important song in the ‘I-Optikon’ tracklist and comes just after ‘Mud’ which is about the crisis before the awake of the mind. Maturity doesn’t mean peace but acceptance that doesn’t necessary requires understanding.”

New Blog Comes Online Covering Band Financial Advice

“Don’t Forget The Business In The Music Business” author Antonio Ponce has posted a new blog on the financial responsibilities that goes with being in a band and working out your budgets. Ponce comments:

“The last thing you want to happen is to get a big break and not be able to act on it due to a lack of funds. Opportunities only come every so often and you need to be ready to pounce when they do. Being in a band means you are part of a team. However, some things need to be taken care of at the individual level first.”

Entitled “Band Budget – Tips On How To Keep Money In The Bank For Band Expenses,” the blog mentions tips to get your financials organized for future development, just one of many topics discussed by Ponce in his new book. Check out the full blog entry here.

Ponce’s debut book “Don’t Forget The Business In The Music Business” aims to enable up-and-coming bands to ascend the ladder of success, based on his band’s experience from playing his first show to six months later being invited to play a festival in Tokyo, Japan. He explains:

“I would have loved to have this information when our band started. There were so many unanswered questions that took years of searching and experience to learn. If this book had existed back then, we could have leaped over the fire instead of trying to walk through it! I know a lot of new and current bands stuck on the ‘what to do next?’ question will find value in the book’s contents. I hope this book is a tool musicians can use to help them get into a position to get to the next level and notice what we were able to do as an unknown band and that they can do it too!”
