Arch Enemy Postpones North American Tour With Goatwhore Until 2019

Swedish death metal veterans Arch Enemy has announced that their scheduled tour of North America, which was to also include Goatwhore and Uncured, has been pushed back to 2019. A statement from the band reads as follows:

“We very much regret to inform you that we will be postponing our return to North America until 2019. We were looking forward to seeing everyone again this fall and to share our stage with Goatwhore and Uncured, but we have been forced to cancel this run due to reasons beyond our control. It’s very unfortunate timing, but we cannot wait to come back and rock US soil again next year and see all your faces! Thank you for understanding and as always for your support of Arch Enemy! Ticket and VIP refunds are available at point of purchase.”

Says Goatwhore drummer Zack Simmons: “Fuckin lame but oh well. Out of our control. Stay tuned for some tour news very soon!”

American thrash metal legends Whiplash sign to Metal Blade Records

– July 18th, 2018 –

New album in the making

Metal Blade Records is proud to welcome East Coast thrashing legends Whiplash to its ranks! Whiplash is an original thrash metal band, and Tony Portaro delivers over 30 years of power thrashing death. Comments Whiplash‘s very own Tony Portaro on the signing: “My main influences were the West Coast thrash bands that Brian Slagel brought into the limelight in the early 80′s. Without them attracting my attention in the first place, I never would have written ‘Power and Pain.’ And the fact that Metal Blade is still promoting old school thrash and believing in me, gives me the inspiration to continue creating my East Coast style of metal.”

Known for his lightning speed riffs and leads, Portaro heads a power-trio lineup delivering metal, old-school style. Whiplash exploded onto the USA metal scene in 1984, branding the East Coast with its original thrash sound. Debuting their Roadrunner release Power And Pain at Ruthie’s Inn, Berkeley, CA., they followed it with two additional releases: Ticket To Mayhem and Insult To Injury. From its East Coast thrash beginnings, Whiplash claimed its place in the metal archives.

As a New Jersey native, Tony Portaro made his chops at NY clubs, including CBGBs and L’Amour. Always attracting talent, Portaro led band members through various incarnations of Whiplash, always trying to realize the musical vision he heard in his head. Producing four more Whiplash records through 2009, Whiplash stamped their way around the globe, gaining thrash followers whose ranks still grow to this day.

Whiplash has recorded a full new album, and in order to get a more old-school sound, Portaro opted to record to 2″ tape. Also, with the advice of renowned mastering engineer, Maor Appelbaum (Faith No More, Halford, Armored Saint, Sepultura, Candlemass, Anvil, Goatwhore), he chose to have the mix done by Phil Anderson, a long-time collaborator of Maor. Phil mixes on an analog board which should further benefit the project and push it in the direction Portaro is looking to reach.

Besides Tony Portaro, Whiplash consists of bassist Dank Delong, who had been recruited by Portaro in 2010. Dank Delong’s presence onstage is undeniable. Dank’s energetic and animated stage performance continues to be electrifying, as he wields his formidable bass missile-like and over his head! He is a long-standing member and VP of the worldwide metal support club, NYDM – Rockland.

Ron Lipnicki’s thrash injection to Whiplash in 2018 would begin a new era for the band on Metal Blade Records. Hailing from New Jersey, Ron’s drum skills need no introduction, coming off a 12 year run with Overkill, and before that, hitting it with Hades. With his precision guns firing, Lipnicki obliterates the kit while setting rapid-fire pace! This is thrash – this is Whiplash thrash!

Whiplash continues to bring old school thrash to a new generation of metal heads. THRASH ‘TIL DEATH!

Stay tuned for more updates on the new album, which will drop in early 2019!

Many words come to mind when you hear the name Cannibal Corpse, but one truly defines the soon-to-be thirty-year death metal veterans: Unstoppable. Produced by Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, Goatwhore), their latest album, Red Before Black, serves to not only reiterate this but to once more raise the stakes, making it very clear who sets the standard when it comes to always compelling music that is equally brutal and complex. Moreover, the band have pushed themselves again, ensuring that it stands out from their catalog. “Throughout our career we’ve tried to improve the precision of both our musical execution and our album production, while still maintaining full-on aggression. ‘Red Before Black‘ continues in that direction, but might go even further on the aggressive side of things. It’s definitely precise, but it has a rawness to it that goes beyond anything we’ve done recently,” asserts bassist Alex Webster. “We really worked super hard crafting these songs, practicing them, and getting them where we wanted to be more so than on any of our previous albums,” adds drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz. “And as Alex said, musically I think it’s the most raw sound we’ve had – and at the same time I think it’s our most focused, tightest and catchiest record.”

Tombs announces North American tour dates with Barishi

– July 12th, 2018 –

Plus a special show with Godflesh!

After releasing their fourth full-length, The Grand Annihilation, last year, Tombs has been touring the world in support of it, joining the likes of Crowbar, Goatwhore, Kreator, and more on various runs across the USA, plus appearing at last month’s Hellfest in France and 2017′s edition of Ozzfest. Now, the band is heading back on the road – this time, with Barishi, plus a special show with Godflesh. See below for all upcoming dates!

Tombs tour dates
w/ Barishi

Aug. 24 – Montague, MA – RPM Fest
Aug. 25 – New York, NY – Gramercy Theatre *
Aug. 26 – Rochester, NY – Bugjar
Aug. 27 – Cleveland, OH – Now That’s Class
Aug. 28 – Chicago, IL – Reggies
Aug. 30 – Toronto, ON – Velvet Underground
Aug. 31 – Ottawa, ON – Café Dekcuf
Sept. 1 – Montreal, QC – Turbo Haus
Sept. 2 – Quebec City, QC – L’Anti
Sept. 3 – Burlington, VT – Nectars
Sept. 28 – Pontiac, MI – The Crofoot (Berserker Fest) **
*= w/ Godflesh, no Barishi
**= no Barishi

While every track on The Grand Annihilation stands separate from those around it, it is still a cohesive collection, and at no point do the stylistic twists and turns undermine its coherence. The blasting, scathing yet melodic black metal savagery of opener “Black Sun Horizon” and “Way Of The Storm” are very much built to destroy, while wielding a poignancy that is undeniable – both of which stand in strong contrast to the uncomfortable post-punk squall of “Underneath” that showcases front-man Mike Hill’s Nick Cave/Ian Curtis-esque singing voice, while the likes of the throbbing “Saturnalian” and unnerving tribal thunder of “Walk With Me In Nightmares” stand in categories all of their own.
