Whitechapel launches video for new single “Hickory Creek”

– March 21st, 2019 –

Artwork by Branca Studio

On March 29th, Whitechapel will release their 7th full-length, The Valley, via Metal Blade Records. Mixed by David Castillo, mastered by Ted Jensen, and produced once again by Mark Lewis (Cannibal Corpse, The Black Dahlia Murder), The Valley is a reference to the part of Hardin Valley (west of Knoxville, Tennessee) where vocalist Phil Bozeman grew up. Set against this backdrop, he approaches his subject matter unflinchingly, building upon everything that came before, making it clear that he has survived that which he was forced to endure and is not afraid to confront it. “Phil has been upfront in his lyrics in the past about hardships he endured in his life as a child, and I believe with this record we tried to paint a better picture of that,” says guitarist Alex Wade, who alongside his bandmates, stands 100% behind everything their vocalist has to say. “I feel our music is Phil’s release from his past, being able to get it out and speak about it, and hopefully anyone who hears it that may have gone through similar experiences can find some release in it as well.”

For a preview of The Valley, the video for the new single “Hickory Creek” (directed by Mathis Arnell) can be seen now at: youtu.be/Lw6hANHeIaw

Amon Amarth reveals details for new album, ‘Berserker’

– March 20th, 2019 –

Launches video for first single, “Raven’s Flight”, featuring Josh Barnett (ex-UFC), Erick Rowan (WWE), and more

On May 3rd, Amon Amarth will release their 11th full-length, Berserker, via Metal Blade Records (North America)/Sony Music (International)! For a preview of the album, the video for the first single, “Raven’s Flight”, can be viewed at: amonamarth.com

Directed by Roboshobo, “Raven’s Flight” will be the first of a trilogy of music videos from Berserker, each one increasingly epic in its scope, further immersing the viewer in the world of Amon Amarth. Much like the songs on Berserker, the videos present Amon Amarth to its fullest. The cast features Josh Barnett as “the Berserker” (wikipedia.org) and Erick Rowan as “Thor” (wikipedia.org), among others.

To pre-order Berserker, please visit amonamarth.lnk.to/berserker – where the album is available in the following formats:

–digipak-CD
–deluxe box set [digipak-CD, shield (~12″x12″), patch (~4″x4″) – limited to 500 copies in US]
–opaque white w/ black splatter vinyl (limited to 1200 copies)
–opaque white w/ silver haze vinyl (retail exclusive – limited to 1300 copies)
–clear w/ red splatter vinyl (webstore exclusive – limited to 750 copies)
–black w/ red haze vinyl (webstore exclusive – limited to 750 copies)

Comprising 12 monstrous heavy metal anthems that bulge with irresistible melodic hooks, bursts of thrilling savagery and moments of spine-tingling dynamic drama, Berserker is the result of the huge surge of creativity and a collective desire to keep moving forward with no compromise. From the disarming melodrama and explosive riffing of opener “Fafner’s Gold” and the brutish simplicity of the rampaging “Crack The Sky” to the epic fury of “Raven’s Flight” and the grim, gritty storytelling of “Ironside” and “Skoll and Hati”, Berserker is an album full of trademark Amon Amarth bluster and bite but with every aspect of the band’s sound somehow refined, sonically enhanced and made vastly more potent, both in terms of metal oomph and emotional power. Neatly summing up the spirit behind these exhilarating new songs is the album’s semi-title track, “The Berserker At Stamford Bridge”: a visceral but vivid historical tale, recounting the Vikings last stand against the English army in 1066 and the mind-bending heroics of one axe-wielding warrior.

Showcasing an undeniable and startling upgrade for every aspect of Amon Amarth‘s iconic sound, Berserker was recorded in Los Angeles with renowned studio guru Jay Ruston (Anthrax/Stone Sour) manning the controls. After recording several rounds of professional demos for the new songs (initially with fellow Swedish metal icon Peter Tägtgren and then later with Ruston himself) the band crossed the Atlantic to make final the recordings in LA, eager to take a fresh approach to the album-making process.

“For me, this is Amon Amarth 2.0,” vocalist Johan Hegg declares. “I think what we’ve done here is give ourselves the space to explore other parts of our musicality and who we are as a band. If you’re content with where you’re at, what’s the point of continuing? We always want to come up with new ideas and find new ways of doing things and to create bigger and better shows and really try to improve every aspect of what the band is. We want to try to keep growing and to do this for as long as we have the possibility to do so, because this is the best fucking job in the world.”

The cast for “Raven’s Flight” also features Tess Kielhammer as “Demon Boss” (imdb.com), Shanie Rusth as “Shield Maiden” (herexchange.net), Erik Arevalo (instagram.com/theerikhammer), Victor Henry (sherdog.com), and Canadian WWE legend Viktor as “Demon Henchman” (wikipedia.org), and many more.

Destrage reveals details for new album, ‘The Chosen One’

– March 19th, 2019 –

Launches video for title track

Cover Art by Marco Tafuri

After 1 week of letting fans vote on their new album name, Italy’s Destrage has announced the true title of their fifth full-length: The Chosen One – which will be released May 24th via Metal Blade Records. The trailers for the fake album names can be viewed below:
https://youtu.be/4D3lleFjE5c
https://youtu.be/Yabd2kXR-H0
https://youtu.be/4iHXsA9yV8M

For a preview of the album, a video for the title track can be seen now at: metalblade.com/destrage – where the record can also be pre-ordered in the following formats:

–jewelcase-CD
–light yellow vinyl / includes CD (EU exclusive – limited to 300 copies)
–pink / blue marbled vinyl / includes CD (EU exclusive – limited to 200 copies)
–multi-color splatter vinyl / includes CD (EU exclusive – limited to 100 copies)
–light pink marbled vinyl / includes CD (US exclusive – limited to 300 copies)
–violet marbled vinyl / includes CD (US exclusive – limited to 200 copies)

As with all of their previous efforts, Destrage make it impossible to pigeonhole their sound, with numerous labels applicable to the record but no single one able to tell the whole story. Moreover, from start to finish, The Chosen One seethes with an energy that is undeniable. “I strongly believe in the power of the people, and energy came from those who worked on this album, from the band, the producers, through to the mixing and mastering engineer. There was a lot of energy in the whole project, and that’s the most important thing to me,” vocalist Paolo Colavolpe enthuses. The record also sees the band once more experimenting, taking risks and exploring territory they have not previously entered into, demonstrating a fearlessness when it came to chasing ideas – and almost half the songs are in a completely different guitar tuning. A pair of unique tracks also bookend the record, the title track and “The Gifted One”, their relationship obvious as they came together in the writing stage. Explains guitarist Matteo Di Gioia: “The song ‘The Chosen One’ is brief, has no repetitions and an unresolved structure. The unexplored, unrepeated sections of that unwrap with more patience on ‘The Gifted One’, which also has an uncommon structure, but in the opposite sense. Here we have a long, pacing, reflexive closing song that shares many elements with the opener but feels completely different.” Further adding to the heady mix is the incorporation of extra instrumentation, among these a baritone saxophone and something the band nicknamed MEGATRON, which is essentially “a badass synthesizer playing guitar riffs together with the human guitarists. Like the saxophone, it’s set to disappear and fuse with the guitars to achieve a slightly unreal sound, and we knew we didn’t want these extra sounds to emerge and be obvious. Instead, we really looked for the listener to experience the ‘What the fuck is that sound?’ effect.”

A smattering of guest musicians also contributed to the album, with “master of evil” Luca Mai of ZU providing a wild saxophone solo on “Mr Bugman” and dubbing the main riff of “At The Cost Of Pleasure”. Jazz musician Fabio Visocchi added keyboards to “At The Cost Of Pleasure” and “The Gifted One”, while Fabrizio “Izio” Pagni produced the electronics and handled the programming. Produced by Matteo “ciube” tabacco and Destrage at Raptor studios, plus mixed and mastered by Josh Wilbur, the recording process proved to be both rewarding and thrilling for the band, who were unable to physically be in LA with Wilbur, but were involved every step of the way. Admitting to being a little intimidated at the thought of working with such a “hot producer” initially, the collaboration was nothing but fruitful: the first mix great, the second better, but they persisted, with the eighth run making it onto the record to everyone’s satisfaction. “We were talking every day on the phone, sending messages back and forth and Josh said to us, ‘Hey! I don’t have a deadline. We mix this until it’s fucking great. My goal is having everybody jumping up and down to this record!’ And he kept his word.”

The Chosen One track-listing

2. About That
3. Hey, Stranger!

Venom Reveals New Box Set “In Nomine Satanas” Details

Venom formed in 1979 in Newcastle upon Tyne. Coming to prominence towards the end of the new wave of British heavy metal, Venom’s first two albums – “Welcome To Hell” (1981) and “Black Metal” (1982) – are considered a major influence on thrash metal and extreme metal in general. Venom’s second album proved influential enough that its title was used as the name of the extreme metal subgenre of black metal. The band classic line-up trio of Cronos, Mantas and Abaddon recorded two further studio albums – “At War With Satan” (1984) and “Possessed” (1985) – and live album “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” (1986). Often cited by bands such as Metallica, Behemoth, Celtic Frost and Mayhem as major influences, they are one of the most revered bands of their generation. Venom are still fronted by original singer/bassist Cronos and headline festivals all over the globe and continue to release new music.

This coming May 31st sees the release of “In Nomine Satanas” via BMG – a deluxe vinyl box set that celebrates Venom’s 40th anniversary and features the original Neat Records recordings from their 1981 debut “Welcome To Hell” to “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik,” the live recording of their mythical appearance at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1985. All of the albums are remastered from the original tapes with embossed covers, posters and inserts like their original first editions. They’re all now on colour configured vinyl too. The set also includes a 12“ book detailing the history of the band featuring new interviews with all three members, written by respected journalist Dom Lawson.

Of particular interest to hardcore Venom fans will be the “Sons Of Satan” double-album included within the set that features a treasure trove of unreleased demos from the bands vaults, some of which are mythical among fans who have known about their existence, but have never heard them as the tracks alluded bootleggers. Among the tracks are the earliest known Venom performances, captured where the band rehearsed in 1979 at Westgate Road Church Hall in Newcastle’s West End and featuring original singer Clive “Jesus Christ” Archer on vocals. Also included are the £50 demos from 1980, captured at Impulse Studios, alongside further demos from 1980 and the “At War With Satan” 1983 Impulse Studio demos.

In Nomine Satanas features in full:

4LPs and 2 x 2LP

– “Welcome To Hell” (Remastered from original tapes on splatter vinyl. Comes with reproductions of original poster and insert with an embossed cover.)
– “Black Metal” (Remastered from original tapes on swirl vinyl. Comes with reproductions of original poster and insert with an embossed cover.)

Týr launches video for new single, “Ragnars Kvæði”

– March 4th, 2019 –

This Friday (March 8th), the Faroe Islands’ Týr will release their eighth full-length, Hel, via Metal Blade Records. Hel is a collection of ruthlessly melodic and irresistibly compelling progressive folk metal that will immediately resonate with any who have followed the band at any point over the two decades of their storied career. For a preview of the album, a video for the new single, “Ragnars Kvæði”, can be viewed at: metalblade.com/tyr – where the previous singles can also be heard, and where Hel can be pre-ordered in the following formats:

–digipak-CD
–box set (digipak CD, drinking horn, leather belt clip, poster, autographed photo card – limited to 1000 copies)

Known for their prolific nature – dropping their first five full-lengths in the space of just seven years – the six-year gap between Valkyrja (2013) and Hel is by far the longest between any two of their records. During that period the band toured hard, taking the album around the world, including a support run with Children Of Bodom in North America and two appearances on the 70,000 Tons Of Metal cruise. However, other factors played into this extended break between releases. “We approached this one differently because I learned that if I continue doing albums in the way we had up to now, I would die from a heart attack before I’m 50!” says guitarist/vocalist Heri Joensen. “That’s one of the reasons we changed our method and took such a long time on this one.” That this tactic has been beneficial is borne out in the finished product, which is perhaps more immersive than those that came before. “Musically it leans a bit towards our album, ‘Ragnarok‘ (2005),” states Thomsen. “It’s a bit more epic and also much better worked through than any of our previous albums.” It also marks the recording debut of drummer Tadeusz Rieckmann, who has manned the drum throne for Týr‘s live shows since 2016.

Hel track-listing:
1. Gates of Hel
2. All Heroes Fall
3. Ragnars Kvæði
4. Garmr
5. Sunset Shore

Whitechapel launches video for new single, “When a Demon Defiles a Witch”

– February 20th, 2019 –

For a preview of The Valley, a video for the new single, “When a Demon Defiles a Witch” (directed by Mathis Arnell – naughtymantis.com), can be viewed at: youtu.be/RuRZYB9EEZM

Anyone throwing The Valley on for the first time will immediately recognize it as the work of Whitechapel, yet as has been the case with each release, there is also evolution in play. “Sound-wise, it’s all over the place,” Bozeman states plainly. “There’s aggression, and then you’re hit with ominous and emotional guitar riffs. It’s mean, but then transfers to soft and inviting. It’s a whirlwind of emotions throughout.”

Whitesnake Reveals New Album “Flesh & Blood” Details; Posts “Shut Up & Kiss Me” Video Online

Whitesnake has confirmed a May 10th release date for their upcoming studio album, “Flesh & Blood,” via Frontiers Music Srl. A video for the first single, “Shut Up & Kiss Me”, can be found below.

Fresh off celebrating their 40th anniversary, rock legends Whitesnake return with their latest studio album, “Flesh & Blood.” This album follows the 2011 critically acclaimed studio album “Forevermore” and 2015’s “The Purple Album,” a reimagining of Deep Purple classics from Whitesnake mastermind’s David Coverdale’s time in that band. The 13 original, visceral tracks on Flesh & Blood, the band’s 13th studio album, are, luckily for you dear reader, “all killer, no filler”, as the saying goes. But would you expect anything less from the ’Snakes?

David Coverdale, the mastermind behind Whitesnake & co-composer of “Shut Up & Kiss Me” with guitarist Reb Beach, commenting on the forthcoming release said that “after the intense darkness of our last video ‘Burn’, if anything, it’s ‘light’ snake, you know? We’ve got some really dark energy going on in the world right now, so we’re gonna write & record a fun, knees up, song about falling in love with a fabulous babe. You’re over-talking, over-compensating & she just looks at you, takes the reins & says, ‘Shut Up and Kiss Me!’ and that’s it!! My video director and creative partner Tyler Bourns and I discussed a great storyline for the video, which involves a surprise guest: my fabulous old white Jaguar. We ended up cleaning and detailing it, as it has been in storage since I moved to Lake Tahoe, then we dusted off my old turquoise silk jacket from the original ‘Here I Go Again’ video and I was thinking, “man, this is going to be fun!” It’s a respectful acknowledgment and positive nod to the past, just fun stuff.”

Joining Coverdale on Flesh & Blood is the powerhouse band comprised of Reb Beach and Joel Hoekstra on guitar, Michael Devin on bass, Tommy Aldridge on drums, and Michele Luppi on keyboards.

Since joining the band four years ago, and just in time for 2015’s “The Purple Album,” Chicago native Joel Hoekstra has really come into his own, not only as a highly impressive axe-slinger, but also as a very accomplished songwriter too, co-writing six of the songs for Flesh & Blood with singer David Coverdale. Of course Joel’s talents are hardly surprising, considering he’s the son of two classical musicians.

Guitarist Reb Beach, who originally joined Whitesnake in 2002, has stepped up to become the group’s bandleader and guides the band to implement Coverdale’s musical vision. As well as bringing his impressive musical chops to the band, Reb has co-written five songs on the new album, the fourth studio album he has appeared on, commencing with 2008’s highly acclaimed “Good To Be Bad.”

It was the “Good To Be Bad” follow-up, “Forevermore” (2011), that saw the debut of bassist Michael Devin. The New Englander’s four-string-depth-charge-bass-bombs definitively underpin and drive the sound of Whitesnake in the 21st century.

Rounding out the rhythm section is David’s longest serving ’Snake, the renowned drummer and unstoppable percussionist Tommy Aldridge, who has been with Whitesnake in some capacity for 30 years. Tommy made his debut with Whitesnake way back in 1987 in the “Still Of The Night” video, becoming a mainstay behind the kit for successive albums and tours.

Last, but certainly not least, the band is completed by the inventive keyboards and vocals of Italian maestro Michele Luppi, who made his live debut in 2015, as documented on “The Purple Tour” live CD/DVD (2018).

The current incarnation of the band carries on the long and unwavering tradition of main man David Coverdale being surrounded by cream of the crop players who go all in to bring fans the best hard rock humanly possible. 40+ years into their existence, the ‘Snakes fangs have only grown sharper and are ready to inject fans with more of that rock ‘n roll venom they crave.
